We are finally getting a second season of Bad Monkey, the Vince Vaughn-led crime comedy series on Apple TV. While it was greenlit a while back, six months after the original completed its run, Apple TV officially confirmed production commencement via their official Instagram account.
The announcement video shows Vaugh and John Ortiz filming for a scene in Season 2.
The first season was based on the novel of the same name by American journalist and novelist Carl Hiaasen, which Lawrence wrote and produced. However, he has revealed that Season 2 won't follow the storyline of the second book in the series, Razor Girl.
In the first season, Vince Vaughn played Andrew Yancy, a former police detective-turned-food inspector who got to switch on his investigative skills once again when he stumbled upon a severed arm in Florida. Lawrence will follow an original story for Season 2, with plans to adapt the Razor Girl storyline for a future season, with Hiaasen consulting on the upcoming season.
In an earlier interaction with TVLine, Lawrence said, "Razor Girl is a great novel for people who want to read it, but it's kind of a break from the characters of the first [book], and we wanted to have some of the characters from the first season more front and center in the second."
This means that Natalie Martinez's character, Rosa, who was Yancy's love interest in the original season, will return and have a significant presence in the second. Also returning is Charlotte Lawrence, who played Caitlin.
It's been eight months since Apple TV dropped the Season 1 finale Bad Monkey's Season 1 finale. It looks like the show will be around for a while. Judging from Lawrence's earlier statements, fans can be optimistic about getting more seasons.
