Top-10 grossers at Tamil Nadu box office 2025: 'Dude', 'Kantara: Chapter 1' enter the list; Ajith Kumar beats Rajinikanth

Ajith Kumar's 'Good Bad Ugly' remains the highest grosser of the year in Tamil Nadu, beating Rajinikanth's 'Coolie'

'Dude' and 'Kantara: Chapter 1' have both made it to the top-10 grossers of the year at TN box office

With the Diwali season almost done, Kollywood's biggies for 2025 are more or less done. There are films slated for Christmas and other weekends of December, so the race isn't technically over but not a lot of changes are expected to the existing top-10 Tamil Nadu grossers list.

Ajith Kumar's Good Bad Ugly is the top-grossing film in Tamil Nadu this year with an approximate gross of Rs 151 crore in the state. The Adhik Ravichandran directorial was a massive success in TN and is Ajith's highest grosser worldwide with Rs 249 crore. The overseas numbers of the film came to Rs 68 crore.

Rajinikanth's Coolie is at second spot with Rs 147 crore gross in Tamil Nadu. The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial is the highest grossing Tamil film  this year with Rs 518 crore gross worldwide. However, in its home market, Coolie ended its run just behind Good Bad Ugly. The action thriller underperformed heavily as it was expected to go past Rs 200 crore in TN.

At no.3 is another Ajith film Vidamuyarchi which was a disappointment at the box office. However, it still collected Rs 79 crore in Tamil Nadu and is currently the third highest grosser in the state this year. Pradeep Ranganathan's blockbuster Dragon is at fourth spot with Rs 77.50 crore. Dragon was a bigger grosser globally with Rs 152 crore while Vidamuyarchi ended its run at Rs 135 crore.

At no.5 is Rishab Shetty's Kantara: Chapter 1 which has grossed Rs 70 crore in the state and has almost ended its run with the OTT premiere slated for October 31. At sixth spot is the most profitable Tamil film of the year Tourist Family. It grossed an extraordinary Rs 63 crore in the state despite having an opening day of Rs 2 crore, showing the power of exceptional word-of-mouth.

Vijay Sethupathi's Thalaivan Thalaivi is at seventh spot with Rs 59 crore gross in TN, also becoming the actor's biggest-ever hit with a worldwide gross of Rs 83 crore. Sivakarthikeyan's Madharaasi, which managed Rs 57 crore gross, is at eighth spot followed by Pradeep's Diwali release Dude is already at Rs 52 crore.

Dude, however, is expected to cross Madharaasi and Thalaivan Thalaivi but might end below Tourist Family. Vishal's Madha Gadha Raja, which was almost shelved years ago, is at ninth spot as the other surprise blockbuster of 2025 with Rs 51.50 crore. Suriya's Retro takes the tenth spot with Rs 50.55 crore gross in Tamil Nadu.
