Thamma is having a very flat trend at the box office on its first Sunday. Ideally, it needed a jump in collections from Saturday which in itself didn't get the expected spike from Friday. Nevertheless, Saturday did see a minor surge and the film should have shown further growth on Sunday but that doesn't seem to the case.
On its sixth day at the India box office, Thamma opened to about 15 percent occupancy in the morning shows, very similar to Saturday but the afternoon shows have seen a growth of about 10 percent when compared to Saturday. The evening shows are expected to see further growth but the night shows may stay flat, as was the case on Saturday.
As per early estimates, Thamma is looking at a Rs 13 crore nett for its sixth day, which would take its six-day India collections to Rs 88 crore nett approximately. It is at least 25-30 crore short of where it should have been, if not more, given the high costs involved and the Maddock Films horror-comedy universe factor.
The film neither got that massive initial push that you'd associate with a film releasing on Diwali day, nor did it manage to show a solid trending across the weekdays and it has also failed to have a resurgence in the weekend. All eyes will now be on Monday and the trends so far look ominous for the film's future.
Given the way it has fared in the six days so far, Thamma is unlikely to attain a HIT status at the box office and that would be a massive dent for the producers who have ambitious plans regarding the horror comedy universe. Monday's numbers and the hold in the weekdays will tell us where the lifetime of the film is heading.
