Popular video game creator Hideo Kojima, known for his extremely cinematic games such as Metal Gear, Death Stranding and its sequel Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, was enthusiastic about Mr. Scorsese, the new Apple TV documentary on veteran filmmaker Martin Scorsese.
In a post on his official 'X' handle, Kojima wrote that he didn't feel the urge to check social media since he was completely immersed in the 5-part documentary.
"Back from South America. Completely exhausted, both physically and mentally. I couldn’t do anything. After returning to Japan, I went back to the office and worked on some concepts for a few hours, but then went straight home. While heating up some frozen food, I just kept watching the documentary series Mr. Scorsese by the director I deeply admire, Martin Scorsese. I only paused when I had to go to the bathroom or make coffee. I can’t even put my feelings into words. I’m overwhelmed," he wrote.
Kojima further added that the Goodfellas and The Departed filmmaker's work has "saved" him "countless times before" and that the account of Scorsese's "life and the way he’s lived as a filmmaker" gave him a "renewed sense of creative “energy' and a never-ending 'calling.'”
Kojima concluded the note expressing gratitude to Scorsese. "I can still keep going," he signed off.
Released on Oct. 17, the five-part documentary is directed by Rebecca Miller, promising "exclusive, unrestricted access" to Scorsese’s private archives, and testimonials from not only Scorsese but also his friends, family, and his collaborators such as Robert De Niro, Daniel Day-Lewis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Mick Jagger, Robbie Robertson, Thelma Schoonmaker, Steven Spielberg, Sharon Stone, Jodie Foster, Paul Schrader, Margot Robbie, Cate Blanchett, Jay Cocks and Rodrigo Prieto.
