In the movie Pitt played retired racer Sonny Hayes, who is asked to team up with and mentor hotheaded rookie driver Joshua Pearce for the APXGP F1 team. The seasoned Haynes and spirited Pearce navigate their rocky relationship while aiming to help their team lift the World Constructors’ Championship for the 2024 FIA Formula 1 Championship. The film also starred Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Javier Bardem.
In its review of the film, THE WEEK said: "The glamour quotient in F1 is high, which is expected in a Joseph Kosinski film, given his design background — the expensive cars, good-looking actors, striking locations, plush restobars, high-end technology... And when combined with Hans Zimmer's reliably epic score and significant contributions from the sound department, what you get is a worthwhile IMAX-friendly experience. But the film doesn't forget to remind us of the blood, sweat and tears that go into an endeavour of this kind. It shows that a racecar driver also runs the risk of losing a job — and his life. It wouldn't be a good sports movie otherwise."

It was recently pulled from many Indian screens after completing its 100-day run in India, marking 15 weeks since its release on June 27, with a total box office gross of Rs 125 crore.
F1: The Movie is not only the highest-grossing Hollywood film of 2025 but also the fifteenth highest-grossing Hollywood film of all time in the country. Much of the profits came from the film's IMAX screenings, which saw massive demand after strong word-of-mouth, with multiple screens beginning their shows as early as 6 am.
When other major Hollywood releases later took over IMAX screens, F1: The Movie was moved to regular screens before audience demand brought it back to IMAX screens for a limited period.
Worldwide, F1: The Movie grossed $627.9 million against a $200-300 million budget.
