Three years since Kantara made waves across the country, its sequel (rather its prequel) is making waves across the country and abroad. The Rishab Shetty-starrer, which released on October 2, has garnered hugely positive reviews from critics and viewers as it races towards a monumental opening week figure.

As per early estimates, Kantara: Chapter 1 has grossed approximately Rs 460 crore worldwide from eight days - a phenomenal opening by all parameters. It is set to go past Rs 500 crore gross worldwide on Friday with a possibility of touching Rs 550 crore or more in the second weekend. In India, the gross has exceeded Rs 350 crore and is fast racing towards the Rs 450 crore mark which should be achieved in the next three days.

In its core market Karnataka, Kantara: Chapter 1 zoomed past the Rs 100 crore mark, becoming only the second film in the state to reach the three-figure mark in the opening week. Yash's KGF 2 is the first film to do so but Kantara: Chapter 1 has broken its first week collections, thereby setting a new benchmark at the Karnataka box office.

In Kerala, the juggernaut continued to roll as the epic mythological drama set the cash registers ringing by minting Rs 31.25 crore in seven days. The trend was superstrong as the film held really well on the weekdays and is set for a lifetime gross of over Rs 50 crore in the state. In Tamil Nadu, the film is trending well, doing better than the native release Idli Kadai, with an estimated gross of Rs 31-32 crore in seven days.

North India has also seen a phenomenal trend with the film going past Rs 100 crore gross comfortably in its seven days. The nett collections will be approximately Rs 97 crore with the three-figure mark to be achieved on Thursday (October 9). Like Tamil Nadu, Kantara: Chapter 1 is dominating the regional release in North India too, with Varun Dhawan's Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari a distance second in the race.

As per early estimates, Kantara: Chapter 1 worldwide gross is set to reach Rs 470 crore in its extended opening week of eight days. With strong trends globally, the film is set for an excellent second weekend and how much it gains will give an indicator of where the lifetime is heading.
