It's been a day since 'Slow Horses' took home the Primetime Emmy award for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series. The much-anticipated Season 5 is already getting glowing reviews after early previews for critics. However, others will have to wait a while to see the first episode of the next chapter of the multiple Emmy and BAFTA-winner.
The Gary Oldman-starrer will premiere on Apple on September 24, 2025 with two episodes, followed by one episode each week leading up to the finale on October 22, 2025.
In its review, Collider.com said that while the new season "doesn't quite reach the heights of its predecessor, it finds success through focusing on the show's biggest strengths, bringing the titular rejects back together for a more straightforward story that, much like the Slow Horses themselves, stumbles into relevancy through what feels like sheer coincidence."
Radiotimes.com wrote, "Those who may have worried that the show couldn't sustain this after such a propulsive fourth season will have their fears assuaged."
Saul Metzstein, who directed the Emmy-nominated Season 3, is directing the six-episode spanning Season 5. Oldman reprises his role of the shabby, curmudgeon leader of the band of eccentric, misfit spies working in the shoddy basement-style espionage department "Slough House", so named for the reason that it employs the "flawed" members of MI5.
Based on the 'Slough House' series of books penned by Mick Herron, 'Slow Horses' is a prime example of a show that got better with each new season, earning acclaim for the cast and crew, with Oldman earning the Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Emmy nominations for his stupendous performance.
Combining elements of the dark comedy and espionage thriller, the show became an instant hit with fans owing to its exceptional writing, performances, and top-notch production value.
As per the official logline of Apple TV+, "In season five of 'Slow Horses', everyone is suspicious when resident tech nerd Roddy Ho has a glamorous new girlfriend. When a series of increasingly bizarre events occur across the city, it falls to the Slow Horses to work out how everything is connected. After all, Lamb knows that in the world of espionage, the London Rules — cover your back — always apply."
Aside from Kristin Scott Thomas, Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Ruth Bradley, James Callis, Tom Brooke and Jonathan Pryce, Season five will see the appearance of 'Ted Lasso' actor Nick Mohammed in a guest appearance.
Created by Will Smith (not to be mistaken for the actor), 'Slow Horses' is backed by See-Saw Films, with Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Julian Stevens, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Douglas Urbanski, Gail Mutrux, Smith and Graham Yost serving as executive producers.
