SonyLIV has announced its upcoming lineup of originals and returning shows in the fiction space. Aside from new seasons of 'Scam', 'Maharani', 'Freedom at Midnight', 'Gullak', 'Undekhi', 'Brinda', and 'Manvat Murders', the streamer introduced new Hindi-language shows such as 'Dynasty', 'Real Kashmir Football Club', 'Civil Lines', and 'Summer of 76', along with Bengali period series 'Jazz City', Malayalam originals such as 'Blindfold, Undertrial', 'Eyes', 'Unfair', and more. We look at the ten most promising titles in the list.
HINDI
'Dynasty' is a political drama headlined by Raveena Tandon, as the daughter of India’s Prime Minister, who takes over after his untimely demise. Created by Nandan Singh, the show is helmed by Sahil Sangha, who is also directing.
'Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga' sees filmmaker Hansal Mehta ('Scam 1992') returning as showrunner, this time exploring another sensational true crime scenario in the business world, of the Sahara group.
'Real Kashmir Football Club' is another true events-inspired original — based on the creation of Kashmir’s first professional soccer club — helmed by Mahesh Mathai, with principal cast members Manav Kaul and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub.
'Summer of 76' is directed by veteran filmmaker Sudhir Mishra ('Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi'), touted as a coming-of-age drama set in the post-Independence Emergency era. Featuring Vishal Vashishtha, Isha Talwar, TJ Bhanu, and others.
'Civil Lines' is a contemporary romance drama starring Varun Sharma, Shivani Raghuvanshi, Anurag Kashyap, Renuka Shahane, and Yashpal Sharma. Nipun Dharmadhikari directs, with Durgesh Singh involved as creator.
BENGALI
'Jazz City' is a Bengali period drama set around a jazz club during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, starring Arifin Shuvoo and Sauraseni Maitra, with Soumik Sen as director and showrunner.
TAMIL
'Madras Mystery: Fall of a Superstar' takes on a real-life scandal from the 1940s — the murder of film journalist CL Lakshminathan that involved key figures from the Tamil film industry, such as Thyagaraja Bhagavatar, SN Krishnan, and Sriramulu Naidu. Nazriya reportedly plays a lawyer.
MALAYALAM
'Blindfold, Undertrial' has Malayalam actor Arjun Radhakrishnan ('Ullozhukku', 'Kannur Squad') playing the central character alongside Lijomol Jose. Directed by Anzarulla, the show is a thriller with strong political undertones.
'Eyes' promises a gripping drama helmed by director Manu Ashokan ('Uyare', 'Kaanekkaane'), and starring Nikhila Vimal, Dev Mohan, Kani Kusruti, and Saniya Iyyappan.
'Unfair' comes from filmmaker PR Arun, who made his directorial debut with Rajisha Vijayan's sports drama 'Finals'. The series is billed as a thought-provoking narrative starring Gayathrie Shankar, Anarkali Marikar, and Harish Uthaman, among others.
