Recently, there was a strong online chatter about Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth coming together after a long gap of 46 years, with Lokesh Kanagaraj's name attached.
The news was confirmed by Kamal himself at the latest edition of the SIIMA awards. In a speech, he said it was a longtime wish finally coming true: "The collaboration between Rajinikanth and I might come as a surprise in terms of business, but not us. We were supposed to do this long ago, and we’re happy that, at least now, we’re finally coming together. We always wanted to produce each other's films, but we kept putting it off thinking we'll do it later."
Me & #Rajinikanth haven’t worked on a movie together for past 46 years. While our collaboration might come as a surprise to the business circle, it’s not to us. We were supposed to do this long ago, and we’re happy that, at least now, we’re finally coming together🔥#KamalHaasan pic.twitter.com/BHhjmmWf1c

There were reports of Lokesh, known for the blockbusters 'Kaithi', 'Vikram' and 'Leo', having met the senior superstars a while back to discuss the project which is rumoured to be a tale of two ageing gangsters.
Kamal Haasan’s production house Raajkamal Films International, which bankrolled 'Vikram', will be jointly backing the film in association with Red Giant Movies ('Thug Life', 'Indian 2').
What does this mean for 'Kaithi 2'? The Karthi-led project was expected to be the next in line for Lokesh after 'Coolie', but if the wheels on this mega project are going to roll earlier than expected, it would mean 'Kaithi 2' will be pushed further.
