Vivek Agnihotri has retitled his next project The Delhi Files to The Bengal Files. He has revealed the update through his social media handles. Taking to X and Instagram on Tuesday, June 20, 2025, Agnihotri wrote, “BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: The Delhi Files is now The Bengal Files. Teaser coming this Thursday, 12 June 2025 at 12 PM. In cinemas on 05 September 2025”.

As per the new poster, the title is accompanied with the caption 'Right to Life'. It was earlier known as The Delhi Files—The Bengal Chapter.

In an interaction with Hindustan Times, Agnihotri reveals the reason behind the name change.

“The first and foremost reason is that the film is about Bengal. When we started making the project, we thought we would make a two-part project with one film titled Delhi Files and the second on the lines of the Bengal chapter. But then people started writing and asking me to make it the Bengal Files. Then I did a poll where 99 people asked me to change the title. That’s when I thought, why get stuck in the communication... Now, it makes more sense.”

The director has also revealed that the second part of the film would also be undergoing a titular change.

The film is the third installment in Agnihotri’s “Files” series, following The Tashkent Files (2019) and The Kashmir Files (2022). It is believed that the film focuses on the Hindu genocide, delving into the far-reaching consequences of the political decisions made in 1940s Bengal, particularly the Direct Action Day and Noakhali riots.

A teaser was released months ago featuring a haunted Mithun Chakraborty, walking through an empty corridor sporting a rugged appearance and a white beard, reciting The Preamble with a burnt tongue.

The film is directed by Vivek Agnihotri and jointly produced by Abhishek Agarwal and Pallavi Joshi. The film also stars Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Govind Namdev and others in key roles.
