Film adaptation of Phasmophobia video game announced at Blumhouse’s ‘The Business of Fear’ event

Blumhouse and Atomic Monster in association with Kinetic Games Limited is set to bankroll the film adaptation of ‘Phasmophobia’, the paranormal horror game

A film adaptation of Phasmophobia is in the works, to be produced by Blumhouse and Atomic Monster. Blumhouse made the announcement at their debut ‘The Business of Fear’ event. British Indie game studio Kinetic Games Limited, the developers of Phasmophobia will join the project as co-producers.

Blumhouse CEO and founder Jason Blum, president Abhijay Prakash, CEO and founder of Atomic Monster James Wan, along with horror analyst and author Stephen Follows were present for the event, according to the entertainment outlet Deadline.

“We’re thrilled to officially announce that a Phasmophobia film adaption is in development – it’s a big moment for the whole Kinetic team, and the start of something really exciting,” said Daniel Knight, director of Kinetic Games and lead developer of Phasmophobia.

“We never could’ve imagined the incredible heights this game would reach when it launched five years ago, and we’re so thankful to our amazing community for the lasting impact Phasmophobia has had in the gaming space and beyond. Working with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster marks an incredible new chapter for the game, and we can’t wait to share more as the project develops.” Knight added.

Phasmophobia, released in 2020, is a horror investigation game. It can be played solo or with multiple players, where their task is to find the type of ghost haunting a location.

Blumhouse is well-known for producing horror flicks. The Exorcists: Believer, Get Out, and Insidious are some notable nail-biters. Additionally, M3GAN, Black Phone 2 and Five Nights at Freddy's 2 are slated to release this year. Atomic Monster has also backed successful horror films like The Nun and The Conjuring.
