After 'L2: Empuraan', Mohanlal's next release is 'Thudarum'; makers announce release date

'Thudarum' comes from Tharun Moorthy, the director of the critically acclaimed films 'Operation Java' and 'Saudi Vellakka'

The makers of Tharun Moorthy's Mohanlal-Shobana-starrer Thudarum has announced that the film will arrive in theatres on April 25, 2025, almost a month after Mohanlal's L2: Empuraan hit screens.

The trailer of Thudarum, released a week ago, gave us a hint of what to expect. The footage evokes the mood of the classic Sathyan Anthikad and Priyadarshan films, and aims to bring back the charm of the numerous films that starred Mohanlal and Shobana.

Shobana seemingly plays a Tamil-speaking Palakkad-based Malayali, judging by the brief Tamil lines she utters in some scenes. She is cast as Mohanlal's wife in the film.

The black Ambassador Landmaster car from Lucifer (or is it a different one?) is making a comeback in Thudarum, too, given Mohanlal's role as a cab driver making a living taking tourists to various destinations.

Through the trailer, the makers also hint at a serious tone at some point in the film. Perhaps there's a connection to the car, as Mohanlal can be seen waiting at the police station where the vehicle is being held for some reason.

Thudarum has a screenplay by KR Sunil and Tharun Moorthy, from the former's story. Produced by M Renjith, the film has Shaji Kumar behind the camera and Jakes Bejoy as the composer.

The late editor Nishadh Yusuf, who had edited Tharun's previous films, worked briefly on the film before his passing. Editor Shafeeque VB later came on board to finish Yusuf's work.
