Filmmaker Sanoj Mishra, who had offered the Mahakumbh viral girl Monalisa a film role, has reportedly been arrested in Delhi on Monday for allegedly raping an aspiring actress several times after luring her with the promise of stardom. Nabi Karim police made the arrest after the Delhi High Court rejected Mishra's bail.

As per reports, the victim, who hails from a small town, stated in her complaint to the police that Mishra contacted her in 2020 through social media apps Instagram and TikTok while residing in Jhansi. After several online exchanges, Mishra went to Jhansi on June 17, 2021, and called her. When she refused to see him, Mishra threatened to die by suicide, following which she agreed to meet him the next day out of fear.

She alleged that the filmmaker then took her to a resort on June 18, sexually assaulted her after giving her intoxicants, and recorded obscene videos of her that Mishra threatened to make viral if she didn't listen to his demands. She further alleged that Mishra met her again multiple times and did the same while promising her marriage and movie opportunities.

Known for films such as Gandhigiri, Ram Ki Janmabhoomi, Lafange Nawab, Dharm Ke Saudagar, and Kashi To Kashmir, Sanoj Mishra made headlines when he announced that he wanted to cast the 2025 Mahakumbh viral girl Monalisa Bhosle — a 16-year-old bead seller — in a film called The Diary of Manipur.

Mishra was previously in the news when reports emerged of a complaint from him that led to an FIR against five individuals who made serious allegations against him. The reports said one of the individuals claimed that Mishra would "ruin" Monalisa's career as none of the films he made so far has seen the light of day.
