Legends Netflix series

Netflix has announced Legends, a six-episode crime drama led by Tom Burke, Steve Coogen, and Hayley Squires (Beau Is Afraid; I, Daniel Blake), and created by Neil Forsyth (The Gold, Guilt).

Based on a real-life criminal investigation that happened in the early '90s, which centered on British Customs officers tasked with the top-secret assignment to go undercover to investigate some of the most notorious drug dealing groups and work on apprehending them.

An official streaming date is yet to be announced.

Netflix's official logline explains the series' title: "In the early ’90s, her Majesty’s Customs and Excise was losing its battle with illegal drug smuggling across Britain’s borders. The solution was extraordinary. In a top-secret operation, a small team of Customs employees were sent undercover. Their task — to infiltrate Britain’s most dangerous drug gangs. But these were not trained spies. They were normal men and women, plucked from ordinary lives around the UK, put through a basic training regime, and tasked with building new identities in the criminal underworld. These identities were called legends."

Aside from Burke (The Souvenir, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga) and Coogan (Philomena, The Trip), the show's ensemble cast also features Jasmine Blackborow, Douglas Hodge, Tom Hughes, and Johnny Harris among others.

Brady Hood, known for his work in the acclaimed shows Top Boy and Great Expectations, is directing the first four episodes; Julian Holmes, who has directed episodes in Reacher and The Boys, is handling the remaining two episodes.

Forsyth and Ben Farrell (The Gold, Feel Good) are executive producing the show under Tannadice Pictures, alongside Lion Television's Richard Bradley. The series producer is Charlie Leech (The Gold, Lovesick).

Meanwhile, Burke will be seen in the latest Steven Soderbergh spy thriller Black Bag, co-starring Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, and Pierce Brosnan. He is also leading Blade Runner 2099, a miniseries sequel to the two Blade Runner films.
