Empuraan director Prithviraj Sukumaran has revealed that they are planning an IMAX release for the Lucifer sequel, making it the first IMAX release from Malayalam cinema.
Sharing the 'landmark' announcement the Empuraan team earlier promised, on his 'X' handle, Prithviraj wrote: "It gives us immense pride to announce that #L2E #Empuraan will be the first ever film from the Malayalam cinema industry to release on IMAX. We hope this is the beginning of a long and illustrious association between IMAX and Malayalam Cinema."
The big-budget entertainer, led by Mohanlal, hits theatres worldwide on March 27, in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. A re-release of Lucifer is also happening this week, on Thursday (March 20).

Empuraan sees Mohanlal, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Baiju Santhosh reprising their roles from Lucifer, in addition to a host of newcomers from Indian and international cinema.
Backed by Aashirvad Cinemas and Gokulam Movies, Empuraan also sees the return of writer Murali Gopy, cinematographer Sujith Vaassudev and composer Deepak Dev, who were part of the Lucifer team as well.
The film will expand the storyline that began in Lucifer and serves as a sequel and a possible prequel to the first film that became one of the highest-grossing Indian films ever made.
The makers have announced that the early shows will commence at 6 am in India, and the rest of the world at corresponding timings.
