After its successful theatrical run, the Kunchacko Boban-starrer Officer on Duty is set for its streaming release. It will be released on Netflix on March 20, 2025.
The police thriller marked the directorial debut of Nayattu actor Jithu Ashraf, who also appeared in the film in a pivotal role. Its principal cast comprises Priyamani, Jagadish Vishak Nair, Aishwarya Raj, Leya Mammen, Anju Abraham, Vaishak Shankar, and Ramzan Muhammed, among others.
Officer on Duty has a script by Shahi Kabir, the writer of the acclaimed cop dramas Joseph and Nayattu. He made his directorial debut with another haunting police story, Ela Veezha Poonchira.
Nayattu director Martin Prakkat produced Officer on Duty, which revolves around a senior police official (Kunchacko Boban) grappling with a past trauma after stumbling upon a case that may have ties to the very event that caused his trauma.
In the review for THE WEEK, the film was praised for "Kunchacko Boban's astonishingly convincing portrayal of a trauma-burdened cop and his personal struggles" and its several technical aspects.
The review described the experience of watching the film as akin to "someone grabbing your throat and squeezing it to an extent that allows you to breathe for a little over two hours, but you are not angry at the experience because, in the end, you are rewarded for it rather than being punished."
It's worth noting that Nayattu, also starring Kunchacko in a much-appreciated performance, is streaming on Netflix.
