The filming for Jailer 2 is officially underway! Production company Sun Pictures, bankrolling the film helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar, shared the news on their social media platforms, announcing that the shoot will begin today (March 10). In a poster featuring lead actor Rajinikanth’s Muthuvel “Tiger” Pandian drenched in blood against a yellow backdrop, the caption reads, “Muthuvel Pandian’s hunt begins! Jailer 2 shoot stars today.”
Filming kicks off two months after the official announcement of the sequel. A hilarious teaser was released in January featuring Dilipkumar and music director Anirudh Ravichander exchanging banter while discussing a possible sequel for Jailer. When threat arrives at their doorstep, they are saved by Rajinikanth’s Muthuvel Pandian, as Hukum from Jailer, plays in the background, after which Anirudh quips, “This is phenomenal, Nelson! Let’s make this into a sequel.”

Soon after the release of Jailer in 2023, Dilipkumar revealed he was planning a sequel to the Thalaivar-starrer. The first movie was a commercial success, grossing Rs 650 crore against an estimated budget of Rs 220 crore, making it the highest-grossing Tamil film and the sixth-highest-grossing Indian film of 2023.
Aside from Rajinikanth, no other cast members has been revealed yet. The previous film featured Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Vasanth Ravi, along with cameos from Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, and Kishore.

The first film dealt with the retired jailer avenging the supposed death of his cop son, Arjun. In a twist of events, Arjun is revealed to be in cahoots with smuggler Varman and is even willing to kill his father for money. After a final showdown, Muthuvel asks his son to surrender but Arjun retaliates forcing Muthuvel to make the painful choice of killing his own son.
Although the plot details of Jailer 2 remain tightly under wraps, fans are excited to see what Muthuvel Pandian will face next.
