'Empuraan' will give a bigger picture of the world of Khureshi Ab'raam: Mohanlal

Actor Mohanlal revealed the poster of 'Character No.1' in Empuraan — his own Stephen Nedumpally aka Khureshi Ab'ram, from the Lucifer sequel. 

Speaking about the character, Mohanlal said Empuraan will give audiences a bigger picture of Khureshi Ab'ram and the world he commands. 

"How does Khureshi Ab'ram deal with the conflicts in his own world and find solutions to the new challenges Kerala is facing? That's what this movie is about," he said, adding that to get a complete picture of the character, it is required to watch the in-development third instalment of the trilogy as well. "So, at the end of the second part, you'll get a glimpse of what leads to the third part as well." 

Mohanlal called Empuraan "the biggest film" of his career and that the entire team made efforts to ensure it was filmed with great care and on a grand scale. "Every actor, every location... everything was treated with utmost importance by the director. This will be one of Prithviraj's most significant films as a director," he concluded. 

Earlier today, Prithviraj Sukumaran said Empuraan will make fans wonder whether the Khureshi Ab'ram syndicate, led by Mohanlal's character after whom the nexus is named, is really that powerful or untouchable.

The actor's statement, needless to say, has further heightened the excitement surrounding the film, and the promos released so far indicate that writer Murali Gopy has expanded the canvas far beyond what we witnessed in the first film.

"In the first instalment of this franchise, Lucifer, we witnessed an infamous nexus that controls the global gold and diamond trade, the Khureshi-Ab'ram nexus. And Zayed Masood was introduced as the mercenary commando leading its hit group, or, rather, its hit force. And that was the only side of Zayed you saw in that film. But just like every character in this franchise, just like every character written by Murali Gopy, even Zayed has a past, a story. A world that was his own. What was that story? What was that world like? And how did Khureshi Ab'ram enter that world? You'll get a brief glimpse of all this in the second part of this franchise," said Prithviraj.
