At a time when people are increasingly feeling disheartened at the crumbling marriages of their tinsel town idols, one more divorce news concerning a big Bollywood star would only amplify the disappointment.
The reports of the divorce of Govinda and wife Sunita Ahuja doing the rounds have led many to speculate that the couple have finally called it quits after a 37-year-long marriage.
The couple has yet to confirm the news.
However, Govinda's niece Arti Singh has told News18 that the news is false. She said, "These are just speculations because their bond is so strong. They have built a strong and loving relationship over the years so how can they get divorced? I don’t know where people get all such rumours from. Completely untrue. People should refrain from spreading misinformation about their personal lives. Such baseless gossip only creates unnecessary stress."
Last month, clips from an interview with Sunita on the channel Hindi Rush were doing the rounds on social media. She had mentioned in the chat that the couple was living in separate houses, implying that he does so because she doesn't approve of the company he keeps. She had also voiced her disapproval of his narrow-minded thinking, especially when it came to her sartorial choices.
Another speculation fuelling the news is Govinda's closeness with a 30-year-old actress could be what caused them to drift apart. Sunita had shared in the Hindi Rush interview that she wasn't concerned about him cheating on her in the early days as he was busy with work, but felt the idea would worry her now given how he has more time unlike before. Raveena Tandon's name had come up during the conversation during which Sunita mentioned that had Govinda met Raveena earlier, she would've married him.
Govinda and Sunita married on March 11, 1987 — a result of a romantic liaison she initiated. They have two children, Yashvardhan Ahuja and Tina Ahuja.
