Netflix has announced that Ajith's action thriller Vidaamuyarchi will stream on the platform from March 3, twenty five days after the Magizh Thirumeni directorial's theatrical release on February 6.
In the film inspired by the 1997 Hollywood thriller Breakdown, starring Kurt Russell, Trisha played the female lead, as Ajith's missing wife, and her husband's desperate mission to find her.
When compared to Ajith's last couple of films, Vidaamuyarchi is a slightly refreshing departure in terms of it focusing more on the character-related aspects and reserving most of the action bits to the film's second and third acts. The first half gives space to fleshing out the complications that arise in the life of a husband and wife who find their marriage slowly eroding.
THE WEEK's review of the film said it "makes its hero look more formidable than its inspiration" and "slightly dilutes the impact created by the original story."
The rest of the cast comprises Arjun Sarja, Arav, Ramya Subramanian, and a host of actors from Azerbaijan playing characters who complicated the mission of Ajith's character. To the makers' credit, the local actors spoke in their language.
Vidaamuyarchi is a production of Subaskaran Allirajah under the banner of Lyca Productions.
Ajith's previous film Thunivu was also released by Netflix after its theatrical run.
