The 78th British Academy Award, commonly known as the BAFTAs, was held on February 16 at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Hosted by David Tennant, the ceremony honoured the best in cinema of the year 2024.
Though Prince Williams, the President of the BAFTAs, was notably absent due to scheduling conflicts, he did appear on-screen for a pre-recorded message to introduce presenters for the BAFTAs Rising Star award, bagged by Alien: Romulus’ David Jonsson.
Edward Berger’s Conclave and Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist emerged glorious at the ceremony earning four nominations each – Conclave for Best Film, Best British Film, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing, and The Brutalist for Best Director, Best Actor, Best Musical Score and Best Cinematography.
In a surprise win, Anora’s Mikey Madison triumphed over The Substance’s Demi Moore for Best Actress. Moore has been a favourite contender this awards season.
Though Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine as Light secured a nomination for Best Film Not in the English Language, it was dominated by Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez.
