Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick’s A Simple Favor 2 will get a release earlier than expected. The film, now retitled Another Simple Favor, will premiere at the South by Southwest (SXSW) on March 7 before arriving on Amazon Prime Video on May 1.
Another Simple Favor is the sequel of the 2018 black comedy A Simple Favor where Samantha (Kendrick), a vlogger, who investigates the disappearance of her wealthy friend, Emily (Lively). The film was a commercial success minting over USD 97 million against a USD 50 million budget.
The official synopsis for the upcoming film reads, “Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Blake Lively) reunite on the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman. Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square.”

Along with the release announcement, the poster for the film was also revealed – a martini glass shaped shot of Capri with Samantha and Emily at the rim, against a striking yellow background. Below the title is written the tag line: “Every friendship has its twists”.

While Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Aparna Nancherla, Kelly McCormack, Joshua Satine, and Ian Ho will reprise their role, Michele Morrone, Elizabeth Perkins, Allison Janney, Elena Sofia Ricci, and Alex Newell will join the cast.
In January, rumours were circulating that Lively would not promote the film due to an ongoing feud between her and Kendrick. In a now-deleted tweet, a user wrote, “Blake Lively’s refusal to promote – amid her messy legal battle with Baldoni – and growing tensions with Anna Kendrick have derailed the sequel. Anna is furious. Paul Feig is disappointed. Hollywood is in shock.”
Feig came in with a swift reply and said, “This is total BS. Sorry. The movie is finished and coming out soon. Don’t believe anything you read on social media these days.”

During the press junket for A Simple Favor, Kendrick’s nonchalant demeanour, paired with her deadpan comebacks to Lively’s snarky comments, made internet sleuths believe that the pair was not on good terms. The clips of their interaction again resurfaced during the premiere of her recent film It Ends with Us.
Lively is currently amidst a legal battle with her It Ends with Us director and co-star Justin Baldoni, accusing him of sexual harassment and launching a smear campaign against her. Baldoni strongly denied the same and filed a countersuit against Lively.
