Actor Ranbir Kapoor had recently come under the scanner for making a remark that had several people on social media calling it a 'red flag' and saying that it reeked of toxic masculinity. Alia Bhatt, in an interview, had said that her husband Ranbir Kapoor doesn't like it when she wears lipsticks and tells her to ‘wipe it off’.
Kapoor, at a recent interaction with fans, referred to a piece written about him on toxic masculinity and said, “Recently, I was reading some article about being toxic and something relating to some statement I made and I understand this. And I am on the side of the people who are fighting for the toxic masculinity, if they use me as the face of it, it’s fine because their fight is bigger than just me feeling sad about them having an opinion about what I said. I look at a larger picture.”
On dealing with negativity on social media, he said, “Hey, I'm not on social media so I don’t have the need to deal with it which is a great thing. But I feel negativity is very important especially if you are an artist and if you have some work out there I think both need to exist because then that creates a balance.”
The couple got married in 2022 and have a daughter. In another interview, Bhatt said that Kapoor doesn't like it when she raises her voice. “I have to try very hard to control my anger because my husband does not like when my voice goes above this decibel. Because he thinks it’s not fair and it’s important to be kind even when you are unhappy,” she told Vice.
The 'lipstick' isn't the only 'insensitive' remark Kapoor has made. While promoting the movie Brahmastra, which also stars Bhatt, the latter's baby bump was showing. Kapoor, addressing the media said, “I can see somebody has phaeloed (spread out),” looking pointedly at her baby bump. Alia can be seen visibly shocked in the video.
The actor later apologised and said, “I spoke to Alia about it and she really laughed it off and she didn’t mind it. But I do have a bad sense of humour and sometimes it falls flat on my own face. So I am sorry if I have hurt anyone with it.”
