HBO Max, on May 14, released the teaser of the much-awaited Friends: The Reunion, where the cast from the original will be seen on a special, that is slated for a broadcast on May 27.

The Mumbai Police on Saturday gave a witty twist to the upcoming special as they shared an advisory, inspired by the popular American sitcom, urging people to stay indoors amid the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

The show, which premiered in September 1994 was a phenomenon during its decade-long run and later achieved cult status through TV reruns and streamers.

A post shared by Mumbai Police on its Instagram handle had the screenshot from the teaser of the special and was captioned:

“Reunite' with your F.R.I.E.N.D.S - but only after the final season of #COVID19, please? Till then, online meet-ups will 'be there for you'' #FriendsForever #FriendsofSafety #takingoncorona #friendsreunion,” Mumbai Police captioned the post.

The post has received over 57,200 likes and 500 comments. “A message much needed at the time of desperation and fear. Thanks, Mumbai Police,” read a comment.

“@mumbaipolice but I won’t get off the plane for you 😂” read another comment, referencing the final episode of the series.

Yet another comment read, “We Mumbaikars are very much comfortable with @mumbaipolice 🙌🙌 you have our ❤️❤️ Thankyou for being there.”

Last year, the Mumbai police tapped into the nostalgia of popular 90s’ shows like Mahabharat, Fauji and Circus to spread awareness about social distancing to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

On April 30, Kerala police released an awareness video that featured a popular indie song, Enjoy Enjaami by playback singer Dhee and rapper Arivu, ‘. In the video posted on Facebook, police officials can be seen dancing to a parody version of the song that emphasises the importance of wearing masks, social distancing and getting vaccinated. This post was well-received on social media.
