Former porn star Mary Carey has announced her decision to run for the post of California governor, even as a special election has been necessitated by the efforts to recall Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat.
Mary Carey, whose original name is Mary Cook, had previously contested elections in 2003 when Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger replaced Democrat Gray Davis after a recall referendum. She was 23 then. Later, she had admitted that she ran for the election as a publicity stunt.
The former adult star is 40 now, and in a recent interview had said "...this time I'm more experienced and I am not going to take this position laying down. I am ready to be on top."
That she is serious about the election is evident from the fact that this time, she has set up a website (filled with double entendres, nonetheless) and has also come up with merchandise like t-shirts, aprons, and stickers.
"I'm getting ready to take another shot at the California Gubernatorial Seat!! Political Strategy is in the works... Any and all support to fight the big political parties will help save our state! Finally a politician you want to be screwed by," she says in her website.
'Totally Recalled 2: Golden Our State Again' is her campaign theme, according to a press release available on her website.
"I have big plans for California, and it is time for someone with a new attitude from outside of mainstream politics to lead. I can promise you – it won’t take long before all Californians will be satisfied with my job performance," she had said announcing her decision to run, even as she said she feels the recall is a waste of resources.
