Actress turns nurse at Mumbai hospital to fight coronavirus

She urged those with medical degrees to join in

Actress Shikha Malhotra has started volunteering as a nurse at a hospital in Mumbai, to contribute to the fight against COVID-19.

Sharing photos on Instagram recently, Shikha wrote that she was proud to serve the nation during this period and urged people to stay safe during the lockdown. She informed that she has a degree in nursing from Delhi’s Vardhaman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung hospital.

"So as you all have always appreciated my efforts my achievements this time need all of your support to #serve the #nation once again and this time I've Decided to join the hospital in #mumbai for #covid19 #crisis. Always there to serve the country as a #Nurse as a #entertainer wherever however I can need your blessings please be at home be safe and support the government," she wrote in the post.

In another video message on Instagram, she also urged everyone with medical degrees to join the fight.

 

She is serving at Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Centre in Mumbai's Jogeshwari.

Shikha Malhotra has shared screen space with actor Sanjay Mishra in Kaanchli and also featured in Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan.

In an earlier post, she thanked her mother for inspiring her, and appreciated her mother for her 40 years of service as a nurse.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called up a nurse from Mumbai’s civic-run Naidu Hospital, which has been treating COVID-19 patients, and applauded the work done by the hospital staff to fight the pandemic. The Prime Minister congratulated Chhaya Jagtap for her devotion and service. "Like you, there are lakhs of nurses, paramedical staff, doctors, who like true 'tapaswis', are serving patients in various hospitals in the country right now. I would like to congratulate you. I am happy to have heard your experiences," Modi said.

The nationwide tally of confirmed coronavirus cases crossed the 1,000-mark and the death toll reached 27 on Sunday.
