Actor Mohanlal, on Monday, took to Instagram to share a photograph with globe-trotting tea-seller couple K.R. Vijayan and Mohana Vijayan.
“The amazing couple Mr Vijayan & Mrs Mohana Vijayan who travelled to 25 countries despite all their limitations, solely by running the famous Sri Balaji Coffee House , Gandhi Nagar in Kochi. I feel blessed to have had their company in my home, and appreciate the meal they brought for me... Truly an inspiration to all!,” he captioned the image.
Vijayan and Mohana have become known in recent years as the tea-selling couple from Kochi travelling across the globe. Speaking to THE WEEK earlier, Vijayan had explained how his love for travel began from his family teashop in Chertala, a small town about 35km from Kochi. The teashop subscribed to a plethora of newspapers to cater to the different political tastes of customers. It is here that Vijayan first saw a peek of the world outside—in the pages of the glossy Soviet magazines like Misha, Soviet Land and Sputnik.
The couple's first overseas visit was to the Middle East in 2007. In September last year, Anand Mahindra came forward to sponsor a trip to Australia and New Zealand, after they were featured in a YouTube video by travel blogger Drew Binsky.
