Deepika Padukone became a social media darling when she decided to extend silent support to the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) who were protesting against an incident of violence unleashed by a band of masked men.
Although there were also those who slammed the move, calling it a publicity stunt ahead of the release of her movie Chhapaak in which she played an acid attack survivor, she was lauded for taking a brave stance.
However, the actor is now facing a social media backlash for being “insensitive” to acid attack survivors. It all began after a video of the actor discussing movie makeups with a popular tik tok makeup artist. The actor says she wants to challenge the makeup artist with three of her favourite move makeup looks. Among the 'looks' the actor suggests is the one from the movie Chhapaak.
The makeup artist impressed the actor by coming up with all the three looks. However, the netizens were not impressed.
Many pointed out that her comment was problematic and insensitive.
"Acid attack victims or anyone with scars for that matter are not "looks". This is so problematic," said one user.
Wow acid attack victims or anyone with scars for that matter are not "looks". This is so problematic.

"Hey @deepikapadukone this is beyond disrespectful. Expected better from you," said another.
Hey @deepikapadukone this is beyond disrespectful. Expected better from you. One thing to 'appropriate' the fight of 1000s of acid attack survivors & becoming their 'spokesperson', but it takes some different level of ignorance to do this. Sorry, not sorry.

"This is the problem with making celebrities a beacon of wisdom," one person pointed out.
This is the problem with making celebrities a beacon of wisdom. They are normal people who are most likely ignorant and dumb due to extreme privilege
