The execution of four people, accused in the gang-rape and murder of a veterinarian in Hyderabad, attracted praise and criticism. While many hailed the police move, there were who raised concerns over the extra-judicial executions.

Kollywood actor Kasthuri, in an interview to a popular entertainment portal, praised the police action and compared it to the climax action sequence in the Vijay-starrer Theri in which the hero executes all those who were responsible for the brutal rape and murder of a young girl.

The actor said those convicted in the Delhi gang-rape are still in jail, but those accused in the Hyderabad rape and murder were killed exactly at the place where they carried out the crime even as people have been losing faith in the system.

She claimed that the encounter may help in bringing fear in the minds of people considering to commit atrocities against women. Further, she said the Hyderabad police did exactly what what Vijay's character did in the movie Theri. She, however, said she does not know if this was the punishment the accused deserved, but claimed that justice has been served in the case.

She, however, added that she is also terrified of such encounter killings as innocent people who have been falsely accused could be victims of such extra-judicial murders. She said asked if those in power accused of such brutal crimes too would be served such punishment and added that the law should treat everyone equally.
