Singer Sona Mohapatra has been very vocal about sexual harassment and has not shied away from naming people as part of the #MeToo movement. One of the people she strongly spoke against was music director Anu Malik, and incidents of sexual misconduct. Malik who had to step down as judge of the hugely popular music reality show Indian Idol last year, is however, back on the judging panel this season. This has been drawing criticism from Sona and others who had voiced opinions against him.

In October last year, Singer Shweta Pandit had accused Anu Malik of harassment when she was a minor. In a lengthy post on Twitter, the singer accused Malik of being a "pedophile and sexual predator", saying he misbehaved with her when she was a greenhorn in the Hindi music industry.

Replying to a netizen who tweeted about Malik's comeback, Sona said that it was singer Sonu Nigam who supported Anu Malik. “Sonu Nigam championed the cause of Anu Malik publicly & his right to be earning millions on nationalTV while saying he’s his mothers son etc to justify his understanding of @IndiaMeToo. Had called Ram Sampath to ‘keep me in check’ while calling me a ‘terrorist’. Must be happy now (sic),” she wrote on Twitter.

In another tweet, Sona revealed how she was asked to leave her seat as a judge after she publicly criticised Malik, with a co-judge even telling her that she provided publicity to a rival show's TRP with her actions.

Recently, she had also criticised Sachin Tendulkar for openly supporting Indian Idol.
