The official trailer of Joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix in the lead, is out, giving us further insights into what made Arthur Fleck turn into one of the craziest antagonists ever to have graced fiction.
The trailer shows Fleck beginning to see the world around him slowly crumbling, pushing him to a rebirth of sorts, as the dreaded nemesis of Gotham City's hero, Batman. “All I have is negative thoughts,” he says, in once of the scenes to his shrink.
When the world around him beats him down, he resurrects as the Joker.
Written by Phillips and Scott Silver, Joker is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen.

Joaquin Phoenix had earlier said he was initially scared of starring in Joker, but the actor believes the fear motivated him to work harder. ''It took me a while (to commit). Now, when I look back, I don't understand why... There was a lot of fear, yeah. But I always say there's motivating fear and debilitating fear. There's the fear where you cannot make a f*****g step, and there's the kind where it's like, 'OK, what do we do? That's not good enough.' And you're digging deeper and deeper. I love that kind of fear. It guides us, makes us work harder," he was quoted as saying.
Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Brett Cullen, Frances Conroy, and Marc Maron, the movie will hit theatres on October 4.
