Mohanlal on political entry: Please don't drag me into any controversy

Mohanlal | Josekutty Panackal

Frequent reports speculating Mohanlal would contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections seem to have upset the veteran actor. Clearly hinting that he is unlikely to become a politician, Mohanlal said it is disappointing he has to reiterate his stand despite having made it clear many times.

He also added that he has already expressed his unwillingness to contest the elections.

Speaking to Manorama Online, Mohanlal said that he had clear-cut political stance of his own. However, he was unwilling to disclose his political allegiance on a public platform, he stressed.

Mohanlal made his stand clear in the midst of ongoing discussions regarding the possibility of the BJP fielding the superstar as a candidate for the coming LS polls. “It is normal for political parties to reveal the names of those whom they would be interested in fielding. We cannot blame them. However, the final decision belongs to that individual. I don’t think this is a chair someone one would claim just on the basis of some pressure tactics,” he said.

“I have clear-cut political opinions. But I do not desire to reveal that publicly. I am just making my living, doing the job I know. And I am trying to put my maximum abilities into that profession. It is my audience who corrects me and helps to bring out the actor whom at least some of them believe to be there within me.”

“I am always with them (audience). I have my own politics, just like each one of my audience have their own. I am just expecting them to correct me in my profession and to help me perform better.

Please do not drag me into any controversy for the time being,” said Mohanlal.
