Malayalam actor Dulquer Salman found himself at the receiving end of a raging controversy after he posted a picture on Instagram, in which he was seen posing with his pet dog 'Honey'.

“Those in the know will know how big a deal this is ! I used to be downright petrified of dogs as a kid. But Honey here I think has converted me ! What a happy friendly adorable gal !,” the actor captioned his photograph.

The picture sparked off a row with a section of the religious fundamentalists slamming the actor, saying dogs are haram to Islam. Some of the users even asked the actor to 'take bath seven times' to wash away his sins as he has touched the animal.

A few other users have concluded that neither Dulquer nor his father—legendary actor Mammooty—is a real Muslim as acting in cinema is forbidden as per Islamic tenets.

However, a huge section of fans and followers of the actor has come in support of him, claiming dogs are the most loyal animals in the world.
