Five days after the series Sacred Games premiered on Netflix, a complaint has been filed against the producers of the series and actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui for insulting former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. In a complaint filed by Kolkata-based Congress leader Rajiv Sinha, he accused the makers of using a cuss word when referring to Gandhi, and also 'misrepresenting facts during his regime.
Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap, Sacred Games, Netflix's first Indian original, has already earned rave reviews from critics and the audience. The series, based on a novel of the same name by Vikram Chandra, stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Saif Ali Khan, Radhika Apte, Pankaj Tripathi.
According to reports, in the fourth episode of the series, titled “Brahmahatya”, Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin) accuses Rajiv Gandhi of playing politics in the Shah Bano triple talaq case. "...the serial also crosses all limits of decency and taken Indian film industry to a new low," Sinha wrote in his complaint. He further demanded an FIR be launched against Netflix, Nawazuddin and the producers of the series.
