The trailer of Dhadak starring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter was released on Monday. With this film, Janhvi, Sridevi and Boney Kapoor's daughter, marks her debut in Bollywood.

The trailer which gives quick glimpses into Janhvi and Ishaan's love story, ends with scenes of struggle and violence that the couple has to face. The over-three-minute trailer particularly stands out for its use of colourful motifs—be it Ishaan's printed shirts or kurtas, Janhvi's vibrant salwar-kameez, ethnic dupattas—all in the backdrop of an enchanting Rajasthan. Talking about Dhadak, director Shashank told PTI, “The basic premise is of differences in caste, honour killing and what it means to survive in that world and I feel that is the conflict that is alive all across India, you will hear stories like that."

Dhadak, an adaptation of acclaimed Marathi film Sairaat, will hit the screens on July 20. Though an adaptation of the Marathi film, Shashank has brought in changes he said.

After Sridevi's sudden demise, all eyes are on Janhvi Kapoor to see how the star will fare on the silverscreen. Produced by Karan Johar's Dhadak is Ishaan Khatter's second film. His performance in debut film, Majid Majidi's Beyond the Clouds, had fetched him critical acclaim.

For Janhvi, this is also an emotionally difficult situation as her mother, who was her pillar of support, is not around to watch her debut film on the big screen. In a recent interview to Vogue, Janhvi spoke about her mother Sridevi's reaction after watching 25 minutes of the film's footage: “She was very technical about it. The first thing she told me was the things I needed to improve — she felt the mascara was smudged and it really bothered her. The second half has to be different, she told me… ‘You can’t wear anything on your face.’ That’s all she told me, but she was happy.”
