An Indian Army paratrooper has carried out what is believed to be among the first tandem parachute jumps involving a dog handler and his combat canine, descending while carrying a full combat load.
The jump was conducted over Behat Drop Zone (DZ) by a paratrooper of the Indian Army's Surya Command, also known as Central Command.
The Army described the feat as a demonstration of "courage, precision and combat readiness", as the jump showcased the ability of the dog handler and combat canine to undertake a tandem descent together under combat-load conditions.
"In a remarkable display of courage, precision and combat readiness, a paratrooper of #SuryaWarrior undertook a tandem parachute jump over Behat DZ with a dog handler and his combat canine, carrying a full combat load," Surya Command said in a post on X.
What makes the jump particularly notable is the combination of the paratrooper, dog handler and combat canine in a tandem descent while carrying a full combat load. According to Surya Command, it is believed to be among the first instances of such a tandem descent involving a handler and his canine.
The achievement also builds on earlier free-fall jumps conducted with the dog, marking another step in training the soldier-canine team for demanding operations.
The Army described the jump as a testament to the trust and teamwork between the soldier and canine.
"A remarkable testament to trust, teamwork and the unbreakable bond between soldier and canine, mission-ready, together," Surya Command said.
Central Command, or Surya Command, was established in Lucknow on May 1, 1963, following the 1962 Chinese aggression, with the objective of guarding the Central Sector of the Line of Actual Control.
The Command has since expanded in size and stature. It is currently responsible for the defence of the Central Sector along the LAC and the International Border with Nepal, extending across Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
