During Operation Sindoor, the Indian Air Force (IAF) carried out precision strikes on terror infrastructure across Pakistan and targeted locations such as Nur Khan and Rahimyar Khan air bases, the Ministry of Defence said in its Annual Report 2025–26.
The IAF also played a critical role in protecting critical assets and airspace when Pakistan launched retaliatory drone and UAV attacks, the report said. A layered air defence grid was deployed using the indigenously developed Akash missile system alongside Pechora and OSA-AK platforms to thwart these attacks, which proved effective. The report, which was made available in the public domain last week, also revealed in detail the targets struck by the IAF in the course of action.
The Defence Ministry elaborated on the damage that the IAF inflicted on Pakistan in the section titled "Role of the IAF in Operation Sindoor". Images depicting the damage suffered by Pakistani military targets following the strikes were also made available with the report. Among the "important targets attacked" during the four-day campaign from May 7 to 10, 2025, are the following:
Aircraft Hangars: Four hangars housing fighter aircraft, AEW&C and UCAVs were targeted successfully by IAF on May 10, 2025. Multiple F-16 aircraft at Jacobabad, one AEW&C aircraft and multiple UCAV of Akinci and TB-2 class were destroyed or damaged along with reported fatalities to numerous Pakistan Air Force (PAF) personnel.
Airfield Infrastructure: In other significant strikes, the cooling plant at Jacobabad and terminal at Rahim Yar Khan were successfully targeted.
Runways: As part of the broad time sensitive tasks and furtherance of air operations, the runways at Sargodha and Rahim Yar Khan were successfully targeted and damaged.
Radars and SAM systems: Six radars and two SAGW locations were successfully targeted using mix of air launched weapons as well as unmanned loiter munitions of IAF.
Command and Control Centres: The command and control centres at Chaklala and Murid were successfully targeted and destroyed. Chaklala happens to be the HQs of PAF Air Defence Command.
Longest Surface to Air Kill: In an operation carried out by a S 400 unit, a Pakistani special mission aircraft, was successfully targeted and destroyed from a distance of 314 km. .. Indian radars tracked the threat in silence and through flawless precision, the long range Surface to Air missile was guided through its far boundary. This crucial operation proved to the adversary that no point on ground or in air was beyond reach of IAF offensive elements.
India launched Operation Sindoor, a military campaign against terrorist hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in May in retaliation for the Pahalgam massacre.
