Ravi K, popularly known as "LCA Man", assumed charge as the 22nd chairman and managing director of state-run aerospace and defence major Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), succeeding D.K. Sunil, who superannuated on April 30.
An HAL veteran with over three decades of experience across various sectors such as A&D, manufacturing and electronics, Ravi has held various leadership roles in the company, including executive director and general manager of the LCA Tejas Division, as well as executive director (corporate planning).
During his tenure, Ravi concluded different big-ticket contracts for HAL, such as the contract to supply 180 LCA Tejas to the Indian Air Force (IAF), 156 LCH Prachand to the Indian Army and IAF. Ravi is also credited with the operationalisation of the LCA Tejas fleet in the IAF.
According to the company, "He boosted fleet serviceability through various customer-centric initiatives, established seamless data communication with IAF bases and created a Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for timely customer support."

Ravi has been a driving force in strengthening indigenous capabilities within the LCA Tejas programme by increasing local content and expanding production capacity in Nasik.
The company noted that Ravi also played a pivotal role in developing a robust manufacturing ecosystem by outsourcing major fuselage assemblies to private sector partners, a strategy that is now delivering tangible results through ongoing deliveries.
The "LCA man" takes over the DPSU at a time when there have been major delays in the supply of Tejas Mk1A fighter jets to the IAF owing to various reasons, including the failure of GE Aerospace to supply the aero engines. The fighter jet also hasn't fully met the Air Staff Qualitative Requirements (ASQRs) of the IAF. Ravi’s Tejas background makes him the ideal crisis manager amid the delays in supplies.
While the DPSU has a massive order pipeline of Rs. 1 lakh crore, its execution speed is under constant scrutiny. Ravi’s priorities will include scaling up the operational and production capabilities of HAL and speeding up deliveries of LCA Tejas.
After assuming office, Ravi said his “vision is to transform HAL into a globally competitive aerospace and defence enterprise, driven by innovation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), operational excellence, and people.”
