In an exchange filing, the company confirmed that the engine was delivered after the manufacturing and assembly of its components, marking another step in the country's journey towards self-reliance in propulsion technology.
According to Azad Engineering, the fully indigenous expendable turbojet engine has been built through complete in-house manufacturing and assembly of engine components.
The engine is reportedly designed to power India's medium-range anti-ship missile, while it could also have applications in UAVs and drones.
Confirming the development, the defence ministry had said the first indigenous Expendable Turbo Jet Engine of 350 kg thrust class, designed by DRDO’s Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), was successfully realised and delivered to GTRE by Azad Engineering.
The ministry hailed it as a "landmark achievement for India's aerospace and defence ecosystem."
"Mastered by only a handful of nations, jet engine technology is widely regarded as one of the most sophisticated engineering disciplines in the world, demanding exceptional precision, advanced metallurgy, and uncompromising manufacturing standards. Delivery of such complex system based on the design of DRDO reflects the growing technological capabilities of the Indian Defence Industry," a statement from the defence ministry read.
Azad Engineering described the delivery as a "defining milestone" for India's aerospace and defence sector and a significant achievement in the country's efforts to develop indigenous propulsion capabilities.
The development also highlights the company's capabilities in precision manufacturing, advanced engineering and complex aero-engine systems.
The successful delivery, according to the company, demonstrates Azad Engineering's ability to manufacture engine systems for development trials while contributing to India's strategic technological advancement.
The engine will now move into development trials with DRDO.
The milestone assumes significance as India continues its push towards self-reliance in propulsion. The development and in-house manufacturing of an indigenous turbojet engine adds another capability in this attempt.
Azad Engineering said the achievement reinforces its commitment to supporting India's indigenous defence and aerospace programmes and represents another step forward in the country's pursuit of self-reliant propulsion technology.
