The WEEK, in association with leading warship maker GRSE (Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers), will bring together stakeholders from the government, the armed forces, industry leaders and domain experts for ‘Sagar Sankalp – Reclaiming India’s Maritime Glory’, a high-level maritime defence dialogue, on March 6 (Friday) at ITC Royal Bengal in Kolkata.

The WEEK, with a rich legacy of over 40 years in defence reporting, has been regularly bringing together defence experts, policymakers, and industry leaders for its defence and maritime conclaves in the last two years, supporting the efforts of the government to push policies towards self-reliance and domestic manufacturing.

The Sagar Sankalp event, powered by Bharat Forge, will serve as a platform to align naval shipbuilding, defence manufacturing, and port policy with India’s broader geopolitical ambitions.

The conclave will be inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who will also deliver the keynote address. Baba Kalyani, managing director of Bharat Forge, will address the gathering.

The event will also see the release of a GRSE history book.

Maritime and defence leaders, including managing director of Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd Karan Adani, and senior officials from various departments, are also scheduled to address the gathering.

The event will feature four panel discussions, with a particular focus on warship building and the expansion of the naval fleet as India enhances its maritime might amid an evolving Indo-Pacific security scenario. The discussions will examine the strategic, industrial, and policy dimensions of India’s emergence as a maritime power.

The event will also feature a presentation on the Lothal National Maritime Heritage Complex, underscoring India’s ancient seafaring traditions.

Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shantanu Thakur will deliver the valedictory address.

As India expands its naval footprint and seeks to build a self-reliant maritime industrial ecosystem, the discussions at Sagar Sankalp are expected to offer key insights into how the country can secure its seas and emerge as a major maritime player.

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) is the associate partner of the event, which is also supported by Marine Electricals.
