During Operation Sindoor, the Indian security forces are reported to have downed several YIHA drones, Turkish-Pakistani loitering munitions jointly developed by Baykar and Pakistan's NASTP (National Aerospace Science & Technology Park).
One such drone, a reconstructed Turkish YIHA kamikaze drone that was neutralised by the Indian side, was on display at an event to mark the 54th Vijay Diwas celebrations on Tuesday. India commemorates Vijay Diwas on December 16 in honour of the soldiers who laid down their lives in the 1971 war with Pakistan that led to the creation of Bangladesh.
According to social media accounts, the drone was on display at the residence of Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi.
Pakistan had used a large number of YIHA single-use attack unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs) to target various Indian military and civilian installations during the recent military standoff between the two countries.
The YIHA drone that was displayed at the event was flying at an altitude of 2,000 metres on May 10. It was launched from Lahore International Airport, and the intended target was Jalandhar, according to military officials.
The drone, carrying a payload of 10 kg of explosives, was brought down by the Army Air Defence. The remotely operated drone was intended to blow up on impact.
