In what comes as a major move in strengthening India's defence posture, the Indian Army is set to place an order for 2,408 Nag Mark 2 anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) along with 107 NAMICA Mk-II tracked missile carriers. NAMICA stands for Nag Missile Carriers.
The decision by the Indian Army to place such a significant order also speaks volumes for the self-reliance in defence production that the country has managed to achieve over the years.
The defence acquisition council gave the acceptance of necessity for the Indian Army's proposal for procurement of Nag Mark 2, manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).

The missile, equipped with a tandem-charge, high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) warhead—designed to destroy heavily armoured targets—enhances the long-range armoured standoff capability of the Indian Army across plains and deserts, with adaptable performance in mountain theatres.
Earlier this year, the field evaluation trials of the all-weather, fire-and-forget Nag Mk ATGMs were successfully conducted at the Pokhran Field Range. During the three field trials, the missile systems destroyed precisely all the targets—maximum and minimum range—validating its firing range, the defence ministry had said.
The Nag Missile Carrier version-2 was also field evaluated then, paving the way for the induction of the entire weapon system into the Indian Army.
