Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, on Tuesday, felicitated popular South Indian actor Lieutenant Colonel (Honorary) Mohanlal for his outstanding contribution to society and his continued association with the Armed Forces.
According to the Indian Army, Mohanlal, an honorary officer of the Indian Army, who was conferred with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army in May 2009, remained deeply connected with the Indian Army, "embodying the values of service, discipline and national pride."
"In recognition of his spirit of service, philanthropy and unwavering respect for the uniform, the Chief of Army Staff presented Lieutenant Colonel (Honorary) Mohanlal with the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card," the Indian Army said.
The Army said the dedication of Mohanlal was notably visible during his voluntary contribution to relief efforts during the Wayanad Natural Disaster in August 2024.
Following the devastating landslides of August 2024, visited the worst-hit regions, including Meppadi, Mundakkai, Chooralmala, and Punchirimattom, dressed in military attire. He had also coordinated with army units and rescue teams on the ground.
"Beyond cinema, Lt Col (Hony) Mohanlal has been a tireless advocate of social causes through the ViswaSanthi Foundation, which supports education, healthcare, skill development, environmental conservation and welfare initiatives across India," the statement from the defence ministry noted.
