Pakistan People’s Party Senator Sherry Rehman sidestepped questions on 'Brigade 313, a shadowy militant group with deep roots in Pakistan, during an interaction with Sky News journalist Yalda Hakim, and claimed that Pakistan is trying hard to clean its terrorist record and that “Pakistan is a changed country.”
When a Sky News reporter pointed out that as per a senior analyst at Terrorism Research & Analysis Consortium (TRAC), Brigade 313—an umbrella organisation for members of several groups like the Taliban, Lashkar-e-Taiba Harakat-ul Jihad Islami (HUJI)—is Al-Qaeda in Pakistan, Rehman claimed that international analysts are siding in with India's narrative.
'Brigade 313' is a special unit within HUJI highly trained fighters, which carried out high-profile missions against India, allegedly with the support of the Pakistani military and security apparatus, as per BBC.
According to Combating Terrorism Centre, "Central Intelligence Agency has reportedly documented the presence of Brigade 313 operatives in various European cities."
“Most of the international analysts you are quoting are strongly aligned with India's narrative. They tell only India's story,” she told the journalist.
When asked about the militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed claiming that 10 family members of its chief Masood Azhar were killed in Operation Sindoor, she deflected again and said "children are not leaders."
Rehman claimed that there are a "hundred insurgencies" running in India and sought to know if Pakistan is responsible for what is going on inside India.
According to the senator, Pakistan is a changed country and it is fighting terrorism. She alleged that India has now become the country that is “fomenting terror.”
