Equity markets will remain shut on May 20 on account of Lok Sabha elections in Mumbai.

The NSE, in a circular, said, "The exchange notifies Monday, May 20, 2024 as a trading holiday on account of Parliamentary Elections in Mumbai. Members are requested to take note of the same."

The Negotiable Instruments Act 1881 allows local governments to declare holidays on election days.

Elections will be held in Dhule, Dindori, Nashik, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Thane, Mumbai North, Mumbai North West, Mumbai North East, Mumbai South, Mumbai South Central, Mumbai North Central and Palghar, on May 20.

Markets will also remain shut on May 1 on account of Maharashtra Day.

There are two market holidays in April. The markets will not operate on April 11 on account of Id-ul-Fitr, and on April 17 owing to Ram Navami.
