Amazon has rolled out a new vertical, Bazaar, where you can buy unbranded products at a low price. The move is seen as an effort to penetrate into the sub-Rs 600 vertical dominated by rival players.

"We continue to invest and innovate on behalf of our customers and third-party sellers and are excited to introduce the Amazon Bazaar storefront on Amazon.in where customers can discover and shop ultra-affordable fashion and home products listed by sellers, especially from manufacturing hubs across India," an Amazon spokesperson stated in a mail to THE WEEK.

With the low-price platform, Amazon will compete with SoftBank-funded Meesho and Flipkart's Shopsy app and look to widen its customer base. Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries is also planning a similar platform called Ajio Street.

Amazon reportedly plans a zero referral fee for merchants under Bazaar as products in the vertical will have low average selling prices (ASP).

"Bazaar is a new store on Amazon where you can sell your fashion and lifestyle products online at no extra charges, thus making it more profitable to run your business," reads a document from Amazon to sellers.

In a support page, Amazon stated, "You can find items from clothing, accessories, and jewelry to handbags, shoes, traditional and western wear, and a wide array of home goods including kitchenware, towels, bed linens, and décor items."
