The Centre has increased the subsidy amount for beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana from Rs 200 to Rs 300 per LPG cylinder.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur, on Wednesday, during a media briefing to announce the cabinet decisions, said the subsidy has been increased by Rs 100. Accordingly, the beneficiaries can now avail 14.2-kg cylinder for Rs 603. Currently, the subsidized price is Rs 703 against the market price of Rs 903.

"During the past nine years, a lot of development work has been done for the welfare of women and the poor. Last month, on the eve of Rakshabandhan, when the prices of domestic LPG were reduced by Rs 200, it reached about ₹900. However, for the Ujjwala beneficiaries, it was Rs 700," news agency ANI quoted the minister as saying.

In August, in a bid to tame the impact of domestic consumer inflation, the government reduced the price of 14.2-kg gas cylinder by Rs 200 and said it would bear the cost of the price reduction.
