McDonald's to join the layoff bandwagon?

Company is planning some 'difficult discussions and decisions'

Popular global fast-food chain McDonald's is planning "difficult discussions and decisions" to restructure the company.

According to media reports, the president and CEO of McDonald's, Chris Kempczinski, in a letter to the employees, said the "outdated and self-limiting" structure of the company is hurting it.

McDonald's has nearly 200,000 employees in corporate roles.

Kempczinski said the "difficult discussions and decisions" that are planned ahead will involve stopping certain projects to help it move faster as an organisation while reducing global costs and freeing up resources to invest in growth.

“We will look to our strategy and our values to guide how we reach those decisions and support every impacted member of the company. We will begin announcing key decisions by April 3,” the letter from the CEO read.

According to Reuters, the company intends to cancel or "de-prioritise" some initiatives even as it focuses on accelerating store development. This may lead to some employees being laid off.

"We will look to our strategy and our values to guide how we reach those decisions and support every impacted member of the company," the letter said.
