Rebranded McDonald's in Russia sold a record 120,000 burgers on opening day

Paroev said that he planned to open 1,000 in five years

The rebranded McDonald's took off to a great start-- it sold a record of 120,000 burgers on opening day.

McDonald's restaurants in Russia reopened their doors with a new name on June 12. The American fast-food had halted operations in Russia on May 16 in wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

McDonald's on Sunday reopened their doors under Russian ownership and a new name-- “Vkusno-i tochka”, which translates as “Tasty and that’s it”.

"We have never seen such daily turnover in the whole time McDonald's has worked in Russia," Oleg Paroev, the chain's CEO told Reuters Paroev said that he planned to open 1,000 restaurants in five years. The US fast-food chain sold the Russian business to local licensee and businessman Alexander Govor, who reopened it under the new name 'Vkusno i tochka'.

The brand opened 15 shops in Moscow. Burgers and other items on the menu are made using ingredients and equipment that the US fast-food chain used. However, the menu doesnt offer Big Macs or McFlurrys. The rebranded eateries have retained 62,000 former McDonald's employees
