HDFC Bank, the country’s largest private sector lender, faced issues with digital banking transactions on Tuesday. A few users took to social media platforms like Twitter complaining about the problems. “HDFC net banking and mobile banking have gone kaput for the last three hours,” tweeted one user.

Another user also complained that there had been issues with net banking throughout the day. Some reported that they were not able to get the one time pin (OTP) to complete transactions.

HDFC Bank acknowledged some users were facing issues and it was looking into it.

“Some customers are facing intermittent issues accessing our NetBanking/MobileBanking App. We are looking into it on priority for resolution. We apologize for the inconvenience and request you to try again after sometime,” the lender said.

HDFC Bank has faced issues with its internet and mobile banking services in the past, too. In December 2020, the Reserve Bank of India had asked the lender to temporarily stop all launches of the digital business generating activities, in the wake of such outages.

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, too, had expressed strong views on the matter in December 2020. “We cannot put thousands or lakhs of customers who are using digital banking into any kind of difficulty for hours together, especially when we are ourselves giving so much emphasis on digital banking. We are quite optimistic that they will take the necessary action and that is the indication we have received,” he had said.

Last month, the lender disclosed that RBI has appointed an external professional IT firm to carry out a special audit of the entire IT infrastructure of the bank under Section 30 (1-B) of the Banking Regulation Act.
